To the Bone
To the bone was rated a 15 by the bbfc (British Broadcasting of Film Classification). The reason it was rated was a 15 was because of the use of strong language references to personal issues and touchy subjects. TO THE BONE is a US drama about a girl who joins a radical treatment programme to confront the issues behind her anorexic condition. The BBFC rated it a 15 was because of the use of language as there is swearing in it with the use of the 'F word' and also milder bad language. There is also some verbal sex references. There are also some images that may not be suitable for people younger than 15 such as a woman sitting in a pool of blood. There are also references to suicide in this film however these cont contain much detail. In my opinion i think the BBFC were correct to rate it a 15 as some viewers younger than 15 may find some images too graphic and the language isn't suitable. The film had a lot of backlash due to the controversial matter at hand as it was a lot to deal with and very graphic. However in my opinion this film needs to address these important issues as a lot of people struggle with eating disorders and this film can help people understand why and how to help.

ReplyDeleteYour own research is good, the film you chose had a huge backlash and there were several ethical issues, which you've picked up on.
